What is CPR? CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a life-saving technique that can be used to restart a person's heart and lungs if they have stopped breathing or their heart has stopped beating. CPR consists of chest compressions and rescue breaths. Chest compressions help to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs, while rescue breaths help to provide oxygen to the body.
Why is it important to learn CPR? Learning CPR can save a life. According to the American Heart Association, bystander CPR can double or triple a person's chances of survival from cardiac arrest. CPR is also an essential skill for healthcare professionals, first responders, and anyone who may be in a situation where they need to help someone who is in cardiac arrest.
